The bidders for the 1980 Westercon were voted on at Westercone in LA.

The bidders were Phoenix in '80 and LA in '80. LA won, 149 to 53 and went on to run Westercon 33.

The LA committee had planned to use the LA Marriott, the site of Westercone again, but discovered that Doug Wright had signed a 3-year contract with the Marriott which included the 4th of July weekend. They moved next door to the Hyatt.
