Chengdu Science Fiction Museum
The Chengdu Science Fiction Museum, 596 Jingyuan West Road, Pidu District, Chengdu, Sichuan, China, was the main venue of the 2023 Chengdu Worldcon, which was postponed to October so that it could be the building’s opening event.
Situated on Jingrong Lake in the Science & Innovation New City of Chengdu’s Pidu District, the building’s futuristic architecture has science and SF elements at its core. It also incorporates mysterious “ancient Shu eyes (gold mask)” in its roof, which is meant to resemble an expanding nebula cloud with a star at its center.
Designed by London-based Zaha-Hadid Architects, and constructed in just one year, the roughly 635,000-square-foot museum offers three main function spaces: the Hugo Hall auditorium, an exhibition hall, and the accompanying forums area.
To meet accessibility needs, the venue is equipped with wheelchair ramps, accessible parking spaces, accessible elevators, and accessible toilets.
Exhibits include props from popular Chinese SF movies.
