Black Flames

A fanzine published in January, 1946 by Jim-E Daugherty (i. e. Virginia Laney Daugherty). Despite being marked as "First Issue", no other was published, making it effectively a one-off. This may be the first ever (essentially) all-woman anthology in SF. The title was explained as dedicated to Stanley Weinbaum's "memory and to the "BLACK FLAME", being the first SF story that, when she [the editor] was first introduced to the field, left such an individual and vivid impression among the many stories that she read."

C. Wyers, Helen B. Dewey (wife of Los Angeles fan G. Gordon Dewey), Mary Gnaedinger (editor of Famous Fantastic Mysteries), Jonne Evans (daughter of SF writer E. Everett Evans; "Gray Fog", pp. 11–2) and others.

Forrest J Ackerman’s Grandmother tells all about him and his start in fandom. Gals, of special interest to you, is the future style of clothing, with illustratio, by Marijane Nuttall.
