SunCon, the 1977 Worldcon, had its share of troubles. It was bid by the 7 in '77 bid committee, seven experienced fans who announced they were bidding the committee and would select a site if they won.
They selected Orlando, but unfortunately, the hotel they selected went bankrupt and they had to move the convention to Miami.
There was considerable friction among the leadership, and one by one most of the original Seven quit, leading to the hoax membership card, below.
