Wendall Ing was a longtime member of NESFA, a Fellow of NESFA and Deputy Treasurer of Noreascon II, the 1980 Worldcon. He rarely took charge of anything, but was always helping, and exerted a calming influence on everyone around him.
In real life, he was an electrical engineer.
