Michael J. Walsh of Baltimore discovered fandom through P. Schuyler Miller's book review column in Analog and then joined Nycon III as a supporting member. Lin Carter's "Our Man in Fandom" column led him to Mirage Press and Jack Chalker who enticed him into joining WSFA, where he has served in a variety of offices.
His first convention was Disclave 13. He started WSFA Press. He was editor of BSFan for a time. He lived in Smof Central.
He chaired the Baltimore in '83 bid, and Constellation, the Worldcon they ran. (See also "Blah, blah, blah, fiscal responsibility".) He has also chaired Disclave 29, Disclave 33, Disclave 36 (even though he was unable to attend it), Capclave 2005, Capclave 2013, and Balticon 15. Also the 1995 World Fantasy Convention, World Fantasy Convention 2003, and the 2014 World Fantasy Convention.
He is a notorious huckster and founded and runs Old Earth Books.
