Nebulae (星云), China’s first fanzine, was published by a young Yao Haijun, initially from a farm in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province, with 40 issues from 1989 to 2007. It featured sf news and reviews and was enormously influential, with a top circulation of 1,200.
In 1998, Yao became an editor of the Chengdu-based prozine Science Fiction World, making his a kind of Chinese George Scithers story.
