- For the rest of the world's fantasies, see Fantasy.
Fantasy was the title used by two separate early UK sf prozines – indeed just that one word, so these Fantasy magazines must not be confused with other Fantasy Magazines, though sometimes have been.
The first, equipped on the cover with a subtitle or perhaps claim Thrilling Science Fiction (but no relation to other Thrilling magazines), was a pulp edited by T. Stanhope Sprigg and published by George Newnes Ltd. There were three undated issues in 1938 and 1939 (reportedly Summer, Spring and Summer respectively) but then the War came.
The second, subtitled Fantasy: The Magazine of Science Fiction (sic!) was a digest edited by Wally Gillings and published by the Temple Bar Publishing Co. It also saw three issues in December 1946, April and August 1947 but folded, despite readers' interest, due to post-war paper shortage. Gillings was able to start Science Fantasy in 1950 with some of the stories bought earlier.
