Chicon 7, the 70th Worldcon and seventh in Chicago, was held August 30 to September 3, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. GoHs: Mike Resnick (author), Story Musgrave (astronaut), Jane Frank (agent), Rowena Morrill (artist), and Peggy Rae Sapienza (fgoh). Rowena was unable to attend due to health issues. John Scalzi was Toastmaster. Sy Liebergot was a Special Guest.
The annual 1632 Minicon was held during the convention.
On occasion (jokingly) referred to as Chicon 2001 (because the previous Chicon in 2000 was called Chicon 2000) and TASFIC 3 (because Chicon 2 was also known as TASFIC).
The convention's parent corporation was Chicago Worldcon Bid, which sponsored the Chicago in 2012 bid and, previously, the unsuccessful Chicago in 2008 bid. Chicon 7 won in the 2012 Worldcon Site Selection at Aussiecon 4 in 2010. It hosted the 2014 Worldcon Site Selection.

When Armbruster was invited to join as a vice-chair, she commented that she had already been a vice chair, but always wanted to be a flying monkey. Chicon's IT department, setting up e-mail for the team, misspelled the title as flyingmonkees@...
