War of the Words, descriptively subtitled "A sampler of SF fanzine Pomes", was a 20-page, one-shot fanzine edited and published in 1990 by Steve Sneyd. It included poetry by John Brunner, Vin¢ Clarke, Paul Enever, Chuck Harris, Archie Mercer, Eric Needham and Sam Youd with a cover by Harry Turner, and "A partial list of other notable 'Pomes'".
The collection quotes Vince Clarke as an epigram:
"Pomes" – humorous verse just written because the extra effort needed was a challenge.
The collection isn't explicitly dated but a couple of references imply 1990, and that's the date given in ISFDB.
