Talk:Mary Southworth
In The Explorer August 1958, a biography says:
Mary Southworth Young, age 20, Joined fandom through corespendence, formed a local high school fan club called the Berkeley Bems, Attended the Philcon 2 and met the Michigan fans the same as Fred Prophet. She was 14 at the time. Attended the Metro-con in 54 and all Midwestcons since. Married George Young at the age of 17. Has two children and various fan projects to take care of. She has a lifetime subscription to DIMENSIONS. She is slowly having a nervous breakdown.
So she was born around 1938 (age 20 in August 1958) or 1939 (age 14 at Philcon II), apparently went to Berkley High School, and got married in 1955 or 1956. (She graduated high school in 1956—or at least she was a senior in the 1956 Berkley yearbook.)
There are also a few references to a similar name, Mary A. Southworth (Price) (Magicon Bidzine #4) and Mary (Price) Southworth (Lan's Lantern #30), which makes me wonder how the surname Price is involved here. Hmmm...
There's a "public record" on Ancestry for Mary Antoinette Southworth born April 1938, which makes sense; she was 2 on April 1, 1940 but 11 on May 1, 1950. It shows her latest address as 37 Owana St, East China, Michigan, and also lists Saratoga Springs, and Asheville NC.

- “Mary a. Price (Southworth)” is also listed among the members of Noreascon 3.. So it seems likely she married someone named Price after splitting with George Young. And possibly divorced him, too.
- Note that she is also connected with Karl Olsen (dateless, too), with whom she owned bookstores. Fancy lists the addresses, in case that’s helpful.
