Stanley Meltzoff

(March 27, 1917 -- November 9, 2006)

Meltzoff, born in New York City, was an American painter most known for his marine paintings.

He served during World War II, and worked for Stars and Stripes. After the war he taught art and art history at CCNY.

During the 1950s, he created more than a dozen paperback covers for Signet, including several books by Robert Heinlein. His personal favorite of these covers was the one he did for Heinlein's The Puppet Masters.

Meltzoff also painted covers and interior spreads for magazines such as Life, Fortune, National Geographic, The Saturday Evening Post, The Atlantic, and Scientific American.

His students included SF artists Paul Lehr and John Schoenherr.
