Sid Birchby
(1918 – January 29, 2001)
Sidney 'Sid' Leonard Birchby was a UK fan from London active from the 1930s into the 2000s. He was a member of the Science Fiction Association (SFA) and was a founder member of the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA).
Birchby had published letters in Astounding as early as 1935. He joined the SFA in 1937 and attended the informal meetings of London SFA members in Lyons Teashop and later in The Flat. During the Second World War he contributed a number of 'London Letters' to Futurian War Digest. He also attended the 'Bombcon' in 1941. He remained an occasionally active (and anthologized) fan writer until his death, with published letters appearing in Trap Door in the early years of the current century.
His brother was John Birchby.
