Bob Pavlat
(January 8, 1926 – June 13, 1983)
Robert K. Pavlat was a fan from the early 1940s and was probably most active in the ’40s and 50s. By the late ’50s, his fanac was mostly local and in FAPA. He was one of the founders of WSFA (and held most of the offices in it). He was made a Knight of St. Fantony in 1971 and was one of the Elders and a member of SAPS.
Bob was one of the major bibliographers of early fanzine fandom. With Bill Evans he produced the Evans-Pavlat Fanzine Index which continued the Swisher Index. He later compile the FAPA Book which listed the contents of the first 96 mailings of FAPA (35 years).
He chaired Disclave 4 and was "dictator" of Disclave 5. He was a member of the Washington in '77 Worldcon bid. He knew what a Nuclear Fizz was. He served in most of the offices of FAPA, also.
His second wife was fellow fan Peggy Rae Pavlat, daughter of his friend Jack McKnight and 19 years his junior. They married in in 1964 and had two children, Melissa (Missy) and Eric. They received the Big Heart Award in 1983. Peggy Rae complained that hotels would often conflate their reservations with those of Ross Pavlac.
