Martin Morse Wooster
(November 30, 1957 – November 12, 2022)
Martin Morse Wooster was a longtime actifan from Baltiwash, active since the 1970s, and a founding member of the Potomac River Science Fiction Society. He was a frequent contributor to File 770 and Ansible. While in college, he was a co-founder of the Beloit Science Fiction and Fantasy Association in Wisconsin.
A critic who reviewed science fiction for such publications as the Wall Street Journal, in his mundane life, Wooster was a journalist and Conservative policy wonk. He was senior fellow at the Capital Research Center and had been an editor at the Wilson Quarterly and American Enterprise. His books include Angry Classrooms, Vacant Minds; The Great Philanthropists and the Problem of ‘Donor Intent’ and Great Philanthropic Mistakes. He also wrote professionally about beer.
He earned a B.A. from Beloit College in Wisconsin in history and philosophy and graduated from the National Journalism Center in Washington, D.C.
He was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the night of November 12, 2022, while walking back to his hotel from a beer conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.
