Los Angeles in 1957 advertisement from Nycon II journal #2.

Los Angeles in 1957 was a bid to host the 1957 Worldcon in Los Angeles. The bid was advertised from the second issue of the Nycon II journal but as Ron Ellik explained, there had been:

an ad in the Con Booklet, placed by the Chesley Donovan group, saying that 'Los Angeles' was withdrawing in favor of London. E. E. Evans stood up and declared that this looked like LASFS was doing such, while LASFS wanted Berkeley to get it next year[1] .

Len Moffatt added that:

Mr. Evans was mistaken. A member of the CDS announced the above-mentioned ad at a LASFS meeting and no one objected to it. Officially, LASFS had not gone on record in favor of either site. Unofficially, there were – and are – a goodly number of LASFS members favoring London in '57 and South Gate in '58'[2].

Whatever the reason for the withdrawal, the 1957 Worldcon Site Selection saw London in 1957 beating a bid from Berkley-Oakland. The London bid went on to run Loncon.
