Laurence Manning

(1899 -- 1972)

Laurence Edward Manning was a Canadian pro. His first published SF story was co-authored with Fletcher Pratt, "City of the Living Dead," and appeared in the May, 1930, issue of Science Wonder Stories. He then wrote "The Voyage of the Asteroid", which appeared in the Summer, 1932, issue of Wonder Stories Quarterly. He is remembered today primarily for his Stranger Club (which provided the name of Boston's Stranger Club) and "The Man Who Awoke" series of stories, with the latter series later published as a novel.

He was a founding member of The American Interplanetary Society (later called The American Rocket Society), serving as both its president and editor of its newsletter.
