Masahiro Noda
(August 18, 1933 – June 6, 2008)
Kōichirō Masahiro Noda (野田昌宏) was one of the founders of Japanese fandom in the 1950s, as well as part of the first generation of Japanese sf writers and a translator. He was an advisor to the Nippon 2007 Worldcon. He chaired Tokon 4 and Tokon 6, the 1968 and 1976 Japanese Natcons in Tokyo. He belonged to and served as an officer of the club Space Force.
Noda was one of the world's leading collectors and researchers of pulp magazines and wrote a number of science fiction history books. He was the author of Kagaku-Shosetsu Shinzui (The Quintessence of Science Fiction, Sogensha Publishers, 1995). Noda was a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan (SFWJ).
He won several Seiun Awards for his fiction and nonfiction, and a number of his translations of other writers’ works were winners, as well.
In his day job, Noda was a television producer and executive. His credits include Iron Chef and Hirake! Ponkkiki. Born in Fukuoka, the eldest son of Kenzaburo and Tsuyako (née Aso) Noda, he graduated from Gakushuin University with a degree in political science in 1959. He never married. Noda died of pneumonia.
