(October 13, 1917 – October 2, 2001)
James Paul Speer II was a young Oklahoma fan who published the fanzine The Original Idea with Dan McPhail while still at school. He doesn’t seem to have been active in fandom otherwise.
He was the older brother of Fancyclopedia’s Jack Speer. He graduated from George Washington University in DC in 1941 and then enrolled in the U.S. Foreign Service. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado and ultimately became a professor at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
