Frank's APA
Frank's APA was a British APA that was active from 1983 to 1986 after which it changed its name to Pieces of Eight.
It was born out of a discussion at Silicon 7 in August 1983. Greg Pickersgill, writing in the first issue of the official organ Blue Suede News, said Frank's was inspired by the success of The Women's Periodical and the enthusiasm of Mike Hamilton and Harry Bell. He undertook to organise it, learning lessons from the failure of APA SF&F.
The OE was by convention always called 'Frank'. Greg Pickersgill was Frank for mailings #1-10, handing over to Alan Dorey from #11 (September 1984).
The original rules said that:
Membership is open to all residents of the United Kingdom. Expatriate Britons of foreign nationals with an interest in and familiarity with British fandom are also eligible for membership at the discretion of the FRANK of the day.
Mailings were monthly. The first was in October 1983 and included 17 apazines from the 18 founder members.
