(1908 -- 1987)

Donald Albert Wandrei was a SF, fantasy, and horror author and editor. He wrote as Donald Wandrei, and was the older brother of SF writer and artist Howard Wandrei (1909 - 1956).

Donald Wandrei had several stories in Weird Tales and Astounding, plus stories in other pulp magazines, including Unknown, Famous Fantastic Mysteries, and Thrilling Wonder Stories.

He knew H. P. Lovecraft and was considered a member of the "Lovecraft Circle." Wandrei is credited with getting Weird Tales to publish Lovecraft's "The Call of Cthulhu."

During the 1930s Wandrei lived in an apartment that was within walking distance of the offices of Street & Smith, who published Astounding and Unknown, so he was able to submit his stories to those magazines in person.

His books included Dark Odyssey (1931), The Eye and the Finger (1944), The Web of Easter Island (1948), Poems for Midnight (1964), and Strange Harvest (1965). The last four books listed were published by Arkham House, the publishing firm founded by Wandrei and August Derleth in 1939 to publish the work of Lovecraft, an author neglected in the book field at that time. Wandrei sold his interest in the firm when the United States entered World War II.

He was a member of the Minneapolis SFL.
