Dafydd ab Hugh (born David Friedman in Los Angeles), is an sf writer best known for his novelette, "The Coon Rolled Down and Ruptured His Larinks, A Squeezed Novel by Mr. Skunk" (Asimov's, August 1990), which was nominated for the Hugo Award and Nebula Award.
He wrote several Star Trek books and co-wrote four novels about the game Doom with Brad Linaweaver.
During the 1980s, he served in the United States Navy. The son of a secular Jewish father and a Welsh-descended mother who converted to Judaism on marriage, he legally changed his name to the Welsh for "David, son of Hugh."
