(1940 – August 16, 2021)

Brian Lombard was a fan from Cape Town in South Africa active from the 1970s. He founded the short-lived Africapa around 1973–4 and was a member of ROMPA.

In a letter published in SF Commentary 35 (July/August/September 1973) he self-described:

I'm a very youthful thirty-two, 5'10" or the metric equivalent, 175-185 lbs, depending on my state of fitness, and rather ugly, I think, with longish hair. By South African standards, I'm an out-and-out liberal, but I'm sorry to say that world opinion might not judge me so.
I'm a chartered accountant by profession and, apart from s f, I'm a music lover, mainly more melodic pop ranging from Baez to Taj Mahal to Santana but I'm particularly fond of rock 'n' roll – the real thing, that is – and I've an impressive collection of old 78s, the cream of which I've put on tape to preserve the originals. When I'm down in the dumps nothing puts me right more effectively than listening to Little Richard or Jerry Lee.

Fanew Sletter 10 (June 1974) reported that Lombard and Nick Shears were "planning a special commemorative publication for Aussiecon devoted to Ursula Le Guin and her works." Its unclear if this was indeed published.

His name appears on a number of Worldcon membership lists from the 1970s. The one at Seacon '79 was almost certainly him as he's identified as South African. It's not clear whether he was the Brian Lombard on the membership lists for Dublin 2019 and CoNZealand (2020).

Ansible 116 (March 1997) reported that "Brian Lombard, a fan for many years, is stuck in a South African prison and might enjoy the odd fanzine".
