Albin Johnson is a Southern fan who founded the 501st Legion Star Wars costuming group. After his daughter Katie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2004, she wished for a droid to watch over her, as R2-D2 watched over Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Johnson and the R2 Builders group collected parts and assembled a pink, fully-functional droid for Katie which they dubbed "R2-KT". Johnson now takes the droid to fandom and media events to spread awareness of pediatric illness.
