Site selection for the 1956 Worldcon was held at Clevention in 1955. There were apparently two New York bids about which we know little. One of them, New York in 1956, won and went on to run NyCon II.
In the Hyphen News Supplement (November 1955), Walt Willis reported that TAFF delegate Ken Bulmer 'registered a bid for a London Worldcon in 1956 but withdrew it in the face of overwhelming odds in favour of New York'. The London bid would return the following year.
This is page about convention bidding, the competition and its outcome. Please extend it by adding information about who was bidding, and how the race went.
