Strange Stories was published by Better Publications of New York from February, 1939, until February, 1941, for a total run of 13 issues.

It was seen by most readers as similar to Weird Tales and featured some of the same authors: Robert Bloch, August Derleth, Manly Wade Wellman, Henry Kuttner, C. L. Moore, Eric Frank Russell, and E. Hoffmann Price. Unfortuately, their stores in Strange Stories were not seen as being up to the standard of those they had published in Weird Tales.

Covers were usually by staff artists Rudolph Belarski and Earle Bergey.

Although no editor was listed, genre historians state that it was probably Mort Weisinger.
