Frank Milnes
(????–)
Frank Milnes was a fan and bookseller from Liverpool. It's unclear when he became active. He was being described as an 'old-time fan'[1] when he became one of the founders of the Liverpool Group in 1951 but there doesn't seem to be evidence of earlier activity. He was later elected chairman and treasurer of the group.
Milnes was from 1950 a partner with Leslie J. Johnson in the Science-Fantasy Service although confusingly he appears on the letterhead as 'A. L. Milnes', his mother's initials. In 1951 the business was renamed Millcross Book Service. Early Liverpool Group meetings were held in their shop. Milnes's name disappeared from the Milcross letterhead around 1954 although it seems the business continued into at least the early 1960s.
He was a regular convention attendee from Festivention in 1951, including acting in The March of Slime and Last and First Fen.
He married another Liverpool fan, Pat Doolan, likely around 1956–7 (she was Patricia Milnes on the membership list for Loncon 1 in 1957). After their marriage they seemed less fannishly active although they were 'responsible for throwing several fine parties'[2].
In Burp #22 (March 1964) Ron Bennett said that 'Pat and Frank Milnes live just outside Liverpool and are only just in contact'.
