(June 1, 1921 – November 10, 1983)
George Wetzel, a fan who was active mostly in the 1940s and 50s, gafiated and later became known for his H. P. Lovecraft scholarship. He was a member of The Esoteric Order of Dagon and the Baltimore SFL.
He seems to have been a difficult character, having been used as an example of the worst kind of fuggheadedness: for example, he apparently wrote poison pen letters to the employers of fans he disliked. The resultant ostracism led to his gafiation.
Jack Speer’s Full Length Articles #6, The Breenigan After One Year, p. 22 mentions "the Wetzel Case" but rather vaguely.
