When Aubrey came to Dad's door in Berkeley Dad said he was 18, so 1928 - 29. His birthday is July 16th, 1910 and I knew that as early as I can remember because he said it pre-dated the NY club a tiny bit so there was a charge on it. And he attended those meetings, It may have been a reconstituted club, when I was a child and young adult.

This is very interesting, because there is serious disagreement among fan histories whether McDermott was indeed the first fan.  As we note in our article on him, while there is no doubt at all that he was a *very early* fan, his recollections changed over the years (they got earlier) leading to questions about the reliability of his dates.

Do your family records or memories have any reliable dates that came from your father and not McDermott, or anything from McDermott predating 1970?

That's a great quote and it helps to make a person more real to readers.  Before I use it, can you tell me who it was about?  (It looks like it's your father, but could have been McDermott.)  Do you recall who said it?
