We don’t know the proper name of this local convention held by the MFS over Labor Day weekend, September 4-6, 1948 — if it even had one. However, Bob Tucker recorded it in Bloomington News Letter, November 1948, as one of three “conferences” that weekend (the others were Westercon 1 and Beercon).

“The Minneapolis thing just grew,” Tucker wrote. It had an attendance of 16, all locals except for Tucker, Frank Robinson and a Chicago fan named Camden. Ollie Saari played host.

The group played baseball (Geeps vs. Nanks), went swimming, listened to recordings and silly stories, and went to a nightclub where Manse Brackney’s girlfriend was singing.
