Best Interior Illustrator Hugo

Winner: Virgil Finlay

This first year of the Hugos there was no shortlist of nominees, nor voting by the members of the convention. The winner was chosen by the Philcon II committee.

Presented September 7, 1953 at Philcon II.

The Best Interior Illustrator Hugo category was a one-time category, awarded only in 1953 at Philcon II, the first year the Hugos were awarded. It was replaced in 1955 (the next year the Hugos were awarded) with Best Professional Artist (which also consolidated the Best Cover Artist Hugo.) Best Professional Artist has survived.

Note that this was not the Best Original Artwork Hugo which was awarded during the early 90s for a single piece, but a body-of-work award.
