An organization of individuals working in the same field who expect to make greater progress by collective effort. This designation is the one applicable to most fan organizations; some of those actually bearing it are FAPA, OMPA, BSFA, WSFA, and ESFA.

Orgs calling themselves associations include the ISA, Scientifiction Association for Boys, OSA, SFAA, SFA, NYFA, FAPA, AFA, MSA, Indiana Fantasy Association, and ( WAFFF! )
