(1) An American Fan and Artist[edit]

(1947 --)

An American fan artist and pro artist. His career started with fan art -- while still a student he was a prolific contributor to fanzines, and won multiple Hugo Awards (see below). His Masters project was a series of paintings for LotR which may have been the first serious illustrations and remain among the best. While he continued to do occasional pro artwork, his career went first into greeting cards and then into film design.

He was involved with the KC in '76 Worldcon bid and the resulting Worldcon, MidAmeriCon. With MidAmeriCon chairman Ken Keller, he co-designed that year's Hugo base -- the first cold-cast resin base used for a Hugo.
