Mel Gilden is a LASFS member, sf writer and Clarion alumnus, whose first sale was to the workshop’s 1971 anthology. He is best known for his humorous works, such as Surfing Samurai Robots, and young adult novels.

He was toastmaster for Con-Version XIII.
