An sf artist who first showed his work at Discon 2 in 1974 and subsequently won work at DAW and elsewhere.

In the late 90s, he turned more and more to gallery art (still sf and fantasy), and did fewer book and magazine covers.

Awards, Honors and GoHships:

His rise was rapid, winning the 1980 Best Professional Artist Hugo. He came to dominate the Best Professional Artist category, winning in 1980-1986, 1988-1989, 1991-1992, 2000, and 2002. He also received nominations in 1990, 1994-2001, and 2006.

In addition to the Best Professional Artist Hugos, he won the 1992 Best Original Artwork Hugo, and the 1988 Best Non-Fiction Book Hugo,and received nominations for the 1993 Best Original Artwork Hugo, the 1995 Best Original Artwork Hugo, the 1980 Best Non-Fiction Book Hugo, the 1994 Best Non-Fiction Book Hugo
