From Fancyclopedia 2, ca. 1959
Tho the most stfnal weapon, the death ray, never left the laboratory (refer to any physics text for the explanation), a large number of other devices first "developed" by science-fiction military establishments now are the property of mundane ones; atomic explosives, uranium power plants, radioactive-dust poisons, guided missiles, tank destroyers, radar fire control, and infrared vision instruments of the sniperscope type; some we missed were submarines, bombardment rockets, and poison gas.
