An artist born in New Zealand and a member of the Aukland SF Club, Hinge moved to the United States, initially to LA, in 1958 and his work appeared in numerous fanzines as well as on the cover of Amazing Stories.
He was nominated for the 1973 Best Professional Artist Hugo. In 1984, he was an impromptu GoH at the New Zealand Natcon.
While still in New Zealand, he published Fanzine Time with Monica Naughton.
