Lyrics written for the CPASF by John Michel to be sung to the tune of the Socialist anthem, “The Internationale.” It was passed out in song sheets at the Newark Convention in 1938. Was this the first filksong?
Awake, ye science-fiction readers! Awake, ye star-begotten fans! For science fiction is advancing! Its fate is one with Man's. The torch of science goes before us, The flag of reason is unfurled. We are the Vanguard of the Future, We'll build a new and better world! 'Tis the final conflict, Let each stand in his place; The International Council Shall be the human Race.
