Tanith Lee was a British writer of SF, fantasy, and horror stories. She was the author of over 90 novels, 300 short stories, a children's picture book, and many poems.

She was nominated for the 1976 Campbell Award and the 1977 Campbell Award.

She was the first woman to win the British Fantasy Award (best novel) for her book Death's Master (1980). She has also won Gilgamés, SF Chronicle, and World Fantasy Awards.

She also wrote under the pseudonym of Esther Garber. In 1987, Lee met artist and writer John Kaiine; and the couple married in 1992.
