George R. Heap was a long-time Philadelphia fan; he was for many years the secretary of the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society. He was Treasurer of the Syracuse in '67 Worldcon bid. He was also noted as a singer and composer of filk songs and an early Tolkien and Heroic Fantasy enthusiast and was active in the Hyborian legion (of which he was Royal Chancellor).
In later years, after he moved to Rochester (where he was a member of Universe Unlimited) and was working as a computer programmer for Xerox, he joined The Cult. He died of a sudden heart attack at his home in Rochester, NY just days before Noreascon I. He was 42 years old when he died.
He was married to fans, first Cindy Heap and then to Sherri Heap.
