Emily January (previously Emily Raftery) is a fan and filker from the UK active since 2001. She was part of the N'Early Music Consort from 2001 to 2007 and is a member of the loose grouping Third Row Fandom.
Her first convention was Conthirteena, the 13th British Filk Convention, in 2001. She was subsequently involved in running HarmUni 2 the following year and then D'Zenove Convention, HarmUni III and Enharmonicon, and DiaCon Alley, a 2011 Harry Potter convention.
More recently – and with her husband, Andrew January – she has been involved in developing and moderating convention Discords for Conversation and Levitation, the 2023 and 2024 UK Eastercons, and for Glasgow 2024, the 2024 Worldcon. She was later part of the team that staged Back to Our Futures, an online convention incorporating a timetabled re-watching of streamed programme of Glasgow 2024 with a social gathering.
She was a part of the N'Early Music Consort, a filk choir, singing alto[1]. In 2007 the Consort were guests of honour at FilKONtario 17. They were also nominated in the 'Best Performer' category for the Pegasus Awards that same year.
She married Andrew January in 2012. She is the sister of Anna Raftery and daughter of Joe Raftery
