Loscon is an annual Los Angeles-area SF convention sponsored by LASFS since 1975; it started with LA 2000, celebrating the LASFS's 2,000th meeting. Since the early 1980s, it has been held over Thanksgiving weekend. Membership is typically about 1,000.
Prime Time Party[edit]
Lamenting that all of the parties at the 1999 Loscon XXVI had shut down by midnight, John Hertz, Becky Thomson and Tom Veal decided to do something about it. The following year, they founded the Prime Time Party, which opens at 1:00 a.m. Saturday night (or, to be technical, Sunday morning) and continues nominally until 7:00 a.m. (actually, until the room is empty, which is often later than seven). The event has become a minor Loscon tradition.
