Loscon 47 was held November 26–28, 2021, at the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles. It was originally scheduled to be held November 27–29, 2020, but was postponed to the following year due to the Covid-19 epidemic. It was (nominally) held in conjunction with Westercon 73.

The Loscon GoHs were Gregory Benford, Jeff Sturgeon, Dennis Cherry, and Kristine Cherry. The theme was "Celebrating the Science in Science Fiction & the Fan in Fantasy" or "Putting the Science in Science Fiction". It also had Tim Griffin as "Special Musical Guest" and Matthew Medney as "Special VR Media Guest".

Westercon 73[edit]

In April 2021, Westercon 73 collapsed and by the Westercon rules, the remains were turned over to the LASFS Board of Directors who elected to hold the Westercon Business meeting and 2023 Westercon Site Selection voting at Loscon 47.

Westercon 73, originally called Westercon 2020, "Perfect Vision", was originally scheduled to be held July 2–5, 2020, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport in SeaTac, WA. It was postponed to July 1–4, 2021, and then turned into a virtual convention. It was then cancelled entirely. All due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Westercon 74, originally selected, for 2021, moved to 2022 to accommodate it.

The Author GoH was David Brin, the Artist GoH was Rob Carlos, the Science GoH was Ethan Siegel, and the Fan Guests of Honor were Kevin Roche and Andrew Trembley.

The committee was Chair: Sally Woehrle, Vice-Chair: Gene Armstrong, Programming: Gibbitt Rhys-Jones, Speculative Film Festival: Shawn Marier, Treasurer: Walter Parker, Social Media: Marah Searle-Kovacevic, and Website: Alex von Thorn.

At some point Woehrle quit and Armstrong took over, but by April 2021 they had determined that they did not have the staff to run a convention and cancelled the convention entirely. By the Westercon rules, this threw the convention into the hands of the LASFS Board of Directors which elected to hold Westercon in conjunction with Loscon 47; however, the only things they added to Loscon were the Westercon business meeting and site selection — Westercon's GoHs did not move.

Westercon 73 was bid for by Seattle in 2020, which was sponsored by Seattle Westercon Organizing Committee. See 2020 Westercon Site Selection.

It would have conducted 2023 Westercon Site Selection for Westercon 75, the 2023 Westercon. (It had been scheduled to conduct site selection for Westercon 75 when it was the 2022 Westercon, but as of the filing deadline no bid had filed.) Site selection was conducted by Loscon 47 in November 2021. All members of Westercon 73 who did not request refunds were eligible to vote.
