James White was one of the great Irish fans, one of the Wheels of IF as well as a successful pro. He was born and lived in Belfast, working as a publicity officer for Short Bros., though he grew up in Canada. He was married to Peggy White.

He was an actifan, one of the Wheels of IF and a member of the Belfast Triangle, working on both Slant and Hyphen. He helped design the Tucker Hotel and was one of the best Ghoodminton players the world has ever seen. He co-authored Beyond the Enchanted Duplicator ... To the Enchanted Convention with Walt Willis.

He also had a successful career as a science fiction writer.
