Russell Swanson was a founder and the first president of the Washington Science Fiction Association in September 1947. At the time, he was in the Army, stationed at Fort Myer. He was discharged and returned to his home in Haddam, Connecticut, in December of that year, though, leaving the club temporarily rudderless.
He attended Philcon. An artist, he designed the Interplanetary Stamps for Philcon II.
