A legendary hotel in Washington, DC, site of Disclave 1, many other Disclaves and Discon II. It's geometry was somewhat exotic -- Joe Mayhew described it as being modeled on Castle Gormenghast. For example, the main hotel basement connected directly to the 8th floor of the attached Motor Hotel. The consuite in C-640 also achieved legendary status.
It was demolished immediately after Disclave 23. Disclave swears that it wasn't their fault and they had nothing to do with it....
The hotel was subsequently rebuilt, but into a less...interesting...and more ordinary (and perhaps more useable) structure. The new building was used for the DC in '92 bid and as the Marriott Wardman Park was used for the DC17 and DC in 2021 bids. The latter won and was scheduled to hold Discon III at the hotel. The Marriott Wardman Park is one of the few venues which fandom can afford that can hold a full-sized Worldcon without a convention center.
However, in the summer of 2020, the Marriott Wardman Park announced that the hotel, which had been closed due to Covid-19 since March, might shut down permanently, with a final decision scheduled for sometime in the Fall of 2020.
