His first book of genre interest was ''A Research Guide to Science Fiction Studies: An Annotated Checklist of Primary and Secondary Sources for Fantasy and Science Fiction'' (1977), with [[L. W. Currey]] and [[Marshall B. Tymn]].

Also with Tymn, Schlobin cofounded and co-edited (1976-1981) ''The Year's Scholarship in Science Fiction and Fantasy'' series.
