'''Eric Steven Raymond''', aka '''ESR''' and '''Eric the Robe''' (from his usual [[hall costume]]), is an [[American]] [[fan]], hacker and [[Libertarian]] whose [[politics]] earned him a slot on the [[Rabid Puppies]]’ 2015 [[Campbell Award]] slate, justified by one story,  “Within This Horizon,” in ''Riding the Red Horse'', a 2014 anthology of [[military sf]] edited by [[Tom Kratman]] and Puppy promoter [[Vox Day]]. 

He has been in [[fandom]] since the 1980s and was active on the [[Usenet]], where he frequently posted [[sf]] book reviews, among other things. 

In the 1990s, he edited and updated the Jargon File, now called The New Hacker's Dictionary, shoveled from a glossary of tech terminology that had been floating around the net since its inception at Stanford in 1975.
