Le Vombiteur Literaire was a United States fanzine published by Robert W. Lowndes.
Richard Wilson reviewed the first issue in Science Fiction Newsletter v3#7, 7 January 1939:
Le Vombiteur Literaire, an occasional supplement to Le V. This issue, Mimeographed with silk-screen cover, presents word sketches of Michel, Wollheim, Lowndes, Pohl, Kornbluth & Jack Gillespie by Leslie Perri.
By implication this first issue was distributed alongside Le Vombiteur #6 (undated) or #7 (31 December 1938).
In The Futurians, Damon Knight said of Perri’s 'word sketches':
Considering that this was composed on the typewriter, under the influence of wine, during a long Christmas afternoon, I think it is remarkably perceptive.
The second issue was distributed in the third FAPA mailing in March 1939.
A few points of potential confusion around this title:
- both are called simply Le Vombiteur on the cover
- some sources, including the original version of this page, spell the title Le Vombiteur Litteraire but on the first issue it's definitely single-t
- the Evans-Pavlat Fanzine Index seemingly has the page counts the wrong way around, saying that the longer issue is the first.
- in a footnote on page 386 of C M Kornbluth: The Life and Works of a Science Fiction Visionary, Mark Rich writes that 'Kornbluth also wrote a "poetic rejoinder" to Chauvenet's comments, which would appear in Lowndes' Le Vombiteur Literaire 4'. Other sources say there were only two issues but if this is correct it implies the existence of presumably at least two more.
