Owen M. Hannifen
(September 16, 1938 – July 5, 2000)
Owen Mitchell Hannifen, a fan living in Burlington, Vermont, and later in LA, San Francisco and Woodland, CA (a suburb of Sacramento), was so interested in LASFS from reading its minutes, that he moved to LA in the early ’60s. Jean Marie Stine described him as a “brilliant, delightful, crazy, and spiky trufan.”
He lived with Jack Harness in the slan shacks The Labyrinth, Labyrinth 3, Labyrinth of Valeron and Labyrinth Duquesne. He was a member of the The Cult, N3F, N'APA, the Fellowship of the Ring, the Burlington F&SF League, Sampo Productions, and the ISFCC. He became active in the SCA.
He was duped on TV's Candid Camera in 1967 while visiting New York and rather enjoyed the process. He had a couple of acting roles in movies in the ’60s.
He married Hilda Hoffman in March 1968. They lived in the BArea. The two were early players of D&D and introduced the game to many West Coast fen.
